British Columbia has officially adopted a new time zone code that will allow the province to remain on permanent daylight saving time year-round. This decision follows a series of consultations and legislative changes aimed at aligning the province’s timekeeping with the preferences of its residents.
The new time zone code, which will be implemented in the coming months, is part of a broader initiative to enhance community well-being and economic activity by eliminating the biannual clock changes that many find disruptive.
Premier John Horgan expressed support for the change, stating that it reflects the wishes of the majority of British Columbians who participated in surveys and discussions about the impacts of time changes on their daily lives.
The move to permanent daylight time aligns B.C. with several other regions in North America that have made similar changes, aiming to provide more daylight during the evening hours for outdoor activities and economic benefits.
As the new time zone code takes effect, residents are encouraged to adjust their schedules accordingly and participate in community discussions about the potential impacts of this significant change.
