Prior to being announced as AMVCA winner in the Trailblazer category last Saturday, the upcoming actress was chosen as the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Rising Star alongside fellow Nollywood actor OC Ukeje.

It was the classic passing of baton as 2016 the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) Trailblazer winner, Kemi Lala Akindoju, co-presented the 2017 Trailblazer award to actress Somkele Idhalama.

Giving kudos to God whom the actress acknowledged as the best scriptwriter, she said, “He wrote this into my script to be standing here right now.”
Idhalama has starred in movies such as The Wedding Party,  The Arbitration, 93 Days,  The Guest and also the yet-to-be-in-cinemas  Ojukokoro.

“I have followed the trail of others, but I never thought that this early, I would become a trailblazer,” said the actor who dedicated the award to her family while appreciating her boss and mum.

“My mum is the strongest woman I know, she has blazed through a lot,” she said.
For her role in 93 Days, she got her first award – Actress of the Year at the 2016 ELOY Award. And a special jury mention for her role in 93 Days at the 2016 Africa International Film Festival Globe Awards. Idhalama was also named winner of the 2017 The Future Awards EbonyLife Prize for Acting.
