An armed robbery attempt in Nigeria ended in a shocking turn of events after a man being targeted by armed robbers reportedly disarmed one of them and used the weapon to stop their escape.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred outside a bank where the victim had just withdrawn approximately ₦10 million (about $7,000). Four armed robbers allegedly approached him in an attempt to seize the cash.
Witnesses say the situation quickly escalated into a struggle when the robbers confronted the man. During the confrontation, he managed to snatch a firearm from one of the attackers, leading to a brief gunfight.
In the chaos, the man reportedly shot the driver of the robbers’ getaway vehicle, preventing the group from escaping the scene. The unexpected resistance disrupted the robbery attempt and forced the remaining suspects to flee.
Bystanders captured parts of the incident on video, which quickly spread across social media, showing the tense moments of the confrontation.
Authorities later arrived at the scene to secure the area and begin an investigation into the attempted robbery.
In a later interview, the man at the center of the incident expressed shock at his own actions.
“I have never ever touched a gun before that moment,” he said, describing how he acted purely on instinct during the life-threatening encounter.
Security analysts say the case highlights the increasing risks around cash withdrawals and the dangers posed by organized robbery groups targeting bank customers.
