In response to a heightened security environment linked to potential protests and broader regional tensions, the Government of Punjab has issued a detailed update mandating security changes for schools throughout the province, according to an official notification released today.
The Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) for Secondary Education announced that morning assemblies in all public and private schools will be suspended until further notice as a precautionary measure to reduce risks associated with large gatherings amid the ongoing security situation. The directive forms part of a wider push to improve safety on campuses across the province.
The notification outlines several specific security protocols that educational institutions must implement immediately:
-
- School authorities are instructed to ensure that installed CCTV cameras remain functional and are actively monitored throughout school hours.
-
- All school personnel are required to download and use the Punjab Safe City app on their Android devices to report emergencies swiftly and coordinate directly with law enforcement.
-
- Strict access control measures must be put in place — schools are to keep gates closed during operational hours and restrict entry to only authorised individuals.
-
- Institutions are also instructed to conduct emergency drills, familiarising students and staff with evacuation routes and safety procedures.
-
- Directives were issued to prohibit high school students from participating in any protests, and schools are required to submit daily compliance reports — with photographs — to relevant authorities monitoring the implementation of security measures.
Government officials emphasised that these measures are precautionary and intend to safeguard students and school staff amid unpredictable security dynamics, particularly as protests and regional developments unfold. Education authorities have urged school administrators, parents, and students to cooperate fully with the new protocols and monitor official communications for further updates.
