Many Nigerians want to know when the newly signed N30,000 minimum wage will take effect across the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari earlier today signed the Minimum Wage Repeal and Re-Enactment Act, 2019.

This was made known today by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, stating that the Act makes it compulsory for all employers across the country to pay workers a minimum of N30,000.

Speaking further, It’s Enang added that the act however excludes persons employing less than 25 workers or persons in other kinds of regulated employment.

The minimum wage Act gives workers the right to sue an employer to recover the balance. It also give a worker the right to authorise the Minister of Labour to take action against an amployer that refuses to pay salaries.

When will the new minimum wage take effect?

The President Muhammadu Buhari administration says implementation of the newly signed N30,000 National Minimum wage act takes effect from April 18.

Who is excluded from the new minimum wage?

Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, said;

This excludes persons who are employing less than 25 workers, persons who work in a ship which sails out of jurisdiction and other persons who are in other kinds of regulated employment which are accepted by the Act.
