The jam-packed crowd crammed into the 68,000-capacity Wanda Metropolitano after the tie was switched due to demand for tickets.
Atletico usually play their home games at the club’s training ground. But they were forced to move the showdown due to popularity.
And that meant 60,739 watched on as the hosts slipped to a 2-0 defeat courtesy of goals from Asisat Oshoala and England international Toni Duggan.
The result has now re-opened the title race, with Barca closing the gap on leaders Atletico to three points with only six matches remaining.
