Barely three days to the governorship, state assembly and supplementary polls, the candidate of main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Jeremiah Useni, said no matter “how privileged or highly placed”, no one can subvert the will of the people of Plateau State come Saturday 9 March, 2019, to ensure they vote out the present “non-performing administration” in the state.
He said the citizens of the state want their “freedom and dignity”, and we will get it through the coming elections.
Useni disclosed this while addressing stakeholders and party supporters at party’s state secretariat in Jos.
He said, “I am here as the PDP flagbearer in Plateau State to share with you a few of my thoughts and convictions on some political developments in our dear State.
“On Saturday, February 23, 2019, the people of Plateau voted in national elections to elect President and members of the national assembly. I thank our people for supporting the PDP to have a convincing win in the presidential election. I know that the elections were peaceful.
He, however, said there were many problems at collation centres in many places.
“Results of our supporters in various units in Qua’an Pan, Wase, Kanam and Jos North LGAs were cancelled without good reasons. We are not happy about this situation. And we are working hard to get justice.
“But on Saturday, March 9, 2019, we are all trooping out again to elect the governor and members of the State House of Assembly. In some areas, there will be re-runs.
“Nevertheless, as the gubernatorial candidate of our party, I am concerned that some of our members and supporters are very angry and disappointed that their votes did not count in the last elections. And so they say that they will not vote in the governorship election. I can understand why they are feeling this way.
“I am also upset that we as a party and as a state were cheated in different places. But staying away from voting this week is definitely not the solution to our disappointment;
it will only make matters worse.
“So I plead with our supporters not to stay away from the polls; should they allow themselves to accept defeat?
“I must say it here clearly that we are here to win, not to surrender. As the person leading the rest of Plateau to restore our state, I promise to stand by the people and protect their votes.
According to him, “I have been briefed on the many funny and strange manipulations APC is working on right now to rig Saturday’s elections; and I must therefore warn very seriously; I will not tolerate the rigging of this election.
“We are keeping very close surveillance on the electoral, security, government and party personnel playing any role in the election.”
