South African athlete, Caster Semenya has challenged plans that would make some female runners lower their testosterone levels before they can compete on the track. She made this challenged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Sebastian Coe, the president of the world athletics governing body, the IAAF, said the proposed new rules is designed to make athletics fairer.
The new rule will make women with hyper-androgynism, an elevated level of male hormones, take medication to lower it before they can participate in any competition.
However, Semenya’s lawyers says the move would be discriminatory. According to him, the world and Olympic champion’s genetic condition should be celebrated instead.
