The Plateau State Chapter of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied reports making the rounds that the party’s candidate vying for the House of Representatives seat for Jos North/Bassa Constituency, Abdulmajid Lawal, had stepped down for the candidate of the ruling APC.
The party said those spreading such rumours were only afraid of the popularity of the candidate in the constituency.
Chairman of the party in the State, Alhaji Sabiu Ibrahim Musa, debunked the rumours while addressing journalists in Jos, the state capital on Monday.
Musa said, “These are just rumours aimed at deterring electorates from voting for our candidate Abdulmajid Lawal.
“But we want to state categorically clear that our candidate has not stepped down for anybody, and let me even stress that none of our candidates have stepped down for anybody.
According the ADC chairman, who was a gubernatorial candidate in the 2011 and 2015 elections, “You know the electoral umpire has said no more campaigns, but we are not campaigning, we are just trying to get things straight, so that our supporters and the electorate are not misled.
“In the first place, why would our candidate who is a very vibrant young man, who has taken time and spent resources to canvass for votes within his constituency withdraw; it is unthinkable.
“Therefore, those spreading this rumour are enemies of progress, Abdulmajid is the popular choice, so that’s why they are jittery and trying to mislead the electorates.”
On the postponement of the presidential and national assembly elections, the ADC chieftain said, it was most unfortunate for the electoral umpire to action such a manner, but maintained that it will not deter its candidates.
