A second Republic Presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, Alhaji Hassan Yusuf, has died at the age of 83.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the son of the deceased, Yusuf Hassan, said he died on Tuesday at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital after a protracted illness and was buried on Tuesday in Damaturu, Yobe State.
He said the deceased left behind 4 wives, 20 children and 55 grand children.
Hassan Yusuf succeeded late Aminu Kano as the presidential candidate of PRP and contested against late Shehu Shagari in 1983.
The late politician started politics in 1958 as a youth leader under the Northern Elements Progressives Union (NEPU), and later joined the Action Group and the PRP.
Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe, Alhaji Maimala Buni, APC governorship candidate, Emirs of Damaturu and Nguru were among dignitaries that attended the funeral prayers in Damaturu.
