Nigerians react as New IGP Mohammed disbands FSARS

Nigerians on social media have kicked against the decentralization of operations of the newly disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit by the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu.

Mohammed on Monday ordered the decentralization of SARS, which before the current development, was centralized at the Force Headquarters.

The new development has since stirred reactions online from Nigerians.

Here are some comments gathered by Daily Post from Twitter:

@Segalink “Unfortunately for those celebrating, EndSARS just got reborn with this chaotic pronouncement. We are back to where it all started. All torture chambers will no doubt be recommissioned with the reinstatement of SARS, SAKS & SACS impunity under commissioners.”

@OsasCruz “The Acting IG of police just returned FSARS back to the era it was before the EndSARS campaign placing them under the control of States Police Commissioners. This is Bad News!!

@Akanaenu “We said End SARS not disband or rebrand, shut that thug recruiting unit for good. Here is an idea, start another unit (Robbery/homocide) with trained and qualified detectives in charge. Notice I didn’t say HIGHLY trained.. that’s like asking Santa for a unicorn.”

@Chydee “So SARS is now back to being SARS, not FSARS anymore. SARS is no longer under the IG’s office, the commissioners of police now control them. Basically back to what it was before the EndSARS campaign. One step forward, two steps backward. Nigeria.”

@BlessingAkpabi1 “Whar exactly does the new IGP want to achieve by bringing SARS back to the state?

@Kiwala139 “If the IG of police returns FSARS to a proper anti robbery squad its fyn. But how sure are we they won’t be hunting and killing innocent people again.“

@Citizengarvel “Dear IGP , it took Nigerians and mostly youths a lot of will power, countless human rights infringements and extra judicial killings to finally EndSARS. Bringing SARS back to life is a total disregard for the lives lost and persons brutalized.”

@Lordsurh “I see this move by the IG as a political one planned towards the upcoming election. They want to use SARS to torment us. Seems these few months of peace, they don’t like it.”

@YemieFash “The report of the disbandment of FSARS by the new IG of @PoliceNG is not a good development, what this means is that SARS has now been drafted back to take orders from State Police Commissioners. They have taken us back to were we started from.”

@Abdulmahmud “EndSARS struggles has just begun with the return of operational commands of SARS everywhere to states Compols.”
