Arsenal boss, Unai Emery has said that his side were defeated 1-0 by West Ham United in the Premier League encounter on Saturday afternoon because his players did not control the match like he wanted.
A goal from Declan Rice gave West Ham all three points against Emery’s men at the London Stadium.
“Yes, I think the result is a bad result. We lost a great opportunity to take the three points and get closer to Chelsea and the teams in the top four but we lost,” Emery was quoted by Football London as saying at post-match.
“We wanted to do a better match, we could not control the match like we wanted.
“Also, only looking at the chances in the match from them [West Ham] and from us I think maybe the result is not what we deserved. But in the game plan, in the control like we needed to push, I think also we could not do that today.
“But we did not concede a lot of chances, but we conceded metres on the pitch and these metres they led to corners, and from one they scored and then the match changed.”
Arsenal will now tackle Chelsea in their next Premier League game on January 19 at the Emirates stadium.
