In its assertion on Monday, the navy officers condemned President Ali Bongo who addressed his compatriots final Monday from Morocco for the primary time since struggling a stroke in October. They described the message as “a pitiful sight” and a “relentless attempt to cling onto power.”
Ali Bongo succeeded his father Omar Bongo as president in 2009. He narrowly received re-election in 2016 in a ballot marred by violence and accusations of fraud.
Mr Bongo, who has been in a foreign country for 2 months, reportedly suffered a stroke in October and acquired therapy in Morocco.
