ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule has long been known as a Jacob Zuma loyalist. Now, he has used the KwaZulu-Natal elective conference to heap more praise on the former president.

Ace Magashule: Zuma is absolutely great

With the conference opening on Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa was unable to give the opening address due to an “international” matter he had to handle. Needing someone to step up to the plate, Magashule seemed more than happy to do so.

While the party had spent the day scrambling to convince members not to go to court to interdict the conference, the court eventually threw out an application from a disgruntled group.

When addressing members, Magashule stressed that the current ANC still holds the core values of the party.

“The ANC of today is still the ANC of yesterday, the character of the movement remains intact,” said Magashule.

According to the man that has previously praised the Guptas, great leaders of the party included Pixey Ka Seme, John Dube, Albert Luthuli, Josiah Gumede and, of course, “President Jacob Zuma.”

Magashule continued, explaining that Zuma built on the legacy of the ANC and took the “bold decision to achieve radical economic transformation.”

“President Zuma has led the movement to achieve free education for all students from the working class and poor,” Magashule said.

The conference will run from Thursday to Saturday and will see its fair share of ANC heavy hitters in attendance. Zweli Mkhize, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Jackson Mthembu will all show face.

“We must never lose sight that the revolutionary movement becomes invisible if it is allergic to criticism and introspection.”

“Revolutionary parties that died did so because they did not confront their weaknesses and work to overcome them. This conference must be about introspection and self-correction. No one can help us beside ourselves.”

Whoever comes out of the conference victorious will be forced with tackling the task of the area’s rampant political killings.
