The fight against drug abuse and substance consumption might have selected a new phase of focus to torpedo the fast devastating situation amongst youths in Nigeria. This proactive decision was propose by the Abuja Drug Abuse Campaign in a press statement it released today.
The convener of the initiative, Prince UC presented the statement with the need to create a multipurpose vehicle through which the public can be sensitised on the menace of drug and substance abuse in our society.
The Abuja Drug Abuse Campaign unveiled its forthcoming program with the the theme “Drug and Substance Abuse, an emerging and current impediment to national development”. The program which commences with a 20km walk will be held at abuja on the 4th of August, following sensitization workshop on the 6th of August holding at Shehu MUSA Yaradua Centre.
According to the statement, the rate of involving elders, youths, children and women is worrisome and must be tackled head long so as to contend this destructive vice especially on our children and women who defines the structure of our nation’s future.
The statement uncovered that over 40% of Nigeria youths are either users, abusers, addicts or have become totally dependent on drugs and substance.
However, this bull of rut has chased-on a generation of youths who find solace in drugs.
In a sensitization program conducted by Abuja Drug Abuse Campaign in Katsina state, its team discovered drug abusers, who are currently going through a special rehabilitation program.
Tagwaye Charity Foundation and Elizabeth Jarich foundation, the mother organisers of this fight against drug abuse are optimistic that the fight will be a fruition if it is supported by the government, corporate agencies and well meaning Nigerians.
