The Nnewi Timber Market was razed by fire on Wednesday night. Many heavy duty timber cutting machines, as well as multi-million Naira worth of timber goods were consumed in the inferno which cause is yet to be established.

The fire which engulfed over one hundred and fifty shops was made worse by the absence of adequate fire fighting equipments in the market.

So far, there is no record of life lost but the traders did suffer a huge financial loss as many heavy duty machines were razed by the fire.

The State Governor have visited the site of the inferno to commiserate with the traders and promised to build a suitable fire station in the market to avert a reoccurrence of such large scale.
