A lady identified as Ifeoma, tried to take her life on Wednesday, when she discovered her lover left her for another woman at Berger Camp, Phase 2, Site 1, Kubwa, Abuja.

A source said trouble started after she got to hear that her lover, while away in his home town, got engaged to another woman. A lady of 21, was said to have survived a first attempt to end her life last Saturday before the recent one.

The source said the estranged woman, who was deeply in love with the man, vowed to go to any length to stop the other relationship, insisting that she would not be alive to see her lover marry another woman. The woman had been a girlfriend to a man, a customs officer, for about three years before the relationship went sour.
“When it became obvious that the man was bent on dumping her for the other woman, she drank a poisonous substance suspected to be an insecticide,” the source added.

The source said she was rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital where she was resuscitated and later discharged. Confirming the incident, the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent Nuruddeen Sabo, said the woman would be charged to court as soon as she was discharged from hospital. She attempted taking her life again soon after she regained consciousness and she was again rushed to the hospital a second time.
